    Hello,
Yes I unistalled it, although it was still working!!
I then downloaded the new driver from the link you gave me, installed it and this enabled me to just go into :
    control panel
    mouse
    ELan tab
    Stop device
and just for good measure I tick the Disable when external USB mouse is plugged in box.
Dead as a Dodo after that!!
Hope this may help someone else with the same problem.

Er - fraid not, if I unplug the USB mouse nothing works - hang on - nope, I just tried un ticking the 'disable when USB mouse in' box and it still does not work - I think I have really killed it 'opps'

Um *she said nervously* I have another question about files not showing pictures, dispite me having clicked the 'large icon' box, should I post somewhere else about this?

Click Start button>rightclick Computer>Select Properties>Advanced System Settings>Edit Video Effects. Tick the box which enables showing thumbnails.

Look in msconfig>Startup or CCleaner>Tools>Startup to make sure touchpad software starts with Windows, then unplug mouse with box ticked to see if touchpad resumes after restart. Try also FN keys to see if they're functional.
