Weird black bars on screen.. help please

Can somebody tell me why this is happening from time to time? I have no idea about what the problem may be and I couldn't find it on Google.

I assume that it is something with Windows 7, maybe a corrupted system file or something, please help me out here!!

Update or reinstall your Display driver from the Support Downloads webpage for the Device maker.

If this fails, check your logs and system resources for clues to OS corruption or hardware problems: troubleshooting steps

Have you done a lot of tweaking or used registry cleaner crapware which almost always corrupts Win7?
If so, clean reinstall adapting these steps to get a perfect reinstall, then refrain from tweaking: Reinstalling Windows 7

I think the blame is one of 2 things:

    1) your graphics card drivers need to be re-installed.

    2) Your graphics card is dying and it's time yo replace it.
Your OS may be corrupt. . .

Lets hope it's the first one.

My graphics card is the XFX 6970 (two months old by now), and no I don't use any registry cleaner BS. I'm gonna re-install my graphics card drivers and see what happens. Thanks, I'll keep you guys posted!

BTW, I don't think that it is a hardware problem since I don't experience any problems like this, at all, when playing games like Amnesia for example, or really, any game.

As for as tweaks go, I don't remember of doing any, besides the SSD stuff.

Just thought I would let you guys know, this happens randomly and when it does happen it takes like hours to occur again..

Maybe your graphics card could be over-heating, graphics cards do weird things when they get too toasty.

Huh? But I've just said that I can play games without any issues whatsoever!

    Then dismiss that. . .

Let us know how it goes. If you have a display card, sometimes physically reinstalling it works if just the driver doesn't.

Check the logs, especially Performance log, for the time the intermittent prob occurs.

I'd still work through the troubleshooting steps at your leisure, including the hardware tests. It's a great learning experience which teaches how to track down any problem in the future.

It seems that reinstalling the graphics card driver (HD 6970) has fixed the problem, thank you! +1 for both of you guys!
