    Updating the RTM?

Looks like I'm going to give the RTM a shot. I believe I'll have to turn off "auto-activate when online" during the install to allow for the rearming thing until October but I'm curious about Windows Updates once it's running. Getting it updated is typically the first thing I do when installing a new OS.

Is it wise (or possible) to run any Windows Updates post-install before the the actual release is public in Oct?

personally i have had no problem using windows updates, all beta and 7600 will update, but you might want to wait until the final RTM is actually released-not yet

Just treat it like any operating system. I have had several minor updates since I did a clean install yesterday. I am using MSE, so I get a daily update for that program.

Can I use the 7100 key to activate the 7600 RTM ?
Is there a newer version coming ? When ?

    Thanks !

1 - nobody can activate 7600 yet - you can use the rearm command a few times to bide you over until october when you buy your official key.

2 - it seems pretty certain that 16385 is the final build, although rumours have appeared that there will be another.

On a related note, I found the following on another forum... just FYI.

Just a small warning. How windows images worked before (at least back in XP) were the oem technet/msdn images were slightly different than the Retail store boxed version and the activation keys were NOT interchangeable (though there might have been a hack to get them to work. I can't remember). So if you had a retail box key then you needed a retail image. If you have a technet/msdn subscription generated key then you need the msdn iso (which I'm guessing what this leak is).

I have no idea if vista and/or win 7 will follow the same pattern.

    mmm alright, gotcha !
So is the new RTM much better than my 7100 ?
Worth the trouble with the rearm stuff ?

I hope I can upgrade safely with the compatability trick....
