    System resume doesn't work!


    Hi guys,

    I'm running windows 7 pro 64-bit and whenever my asus U31F goes into hibernate and i try to system resume, it takes over 5 minutes. The screen freezes on just saying system resume for a minute or two, then as the coloured balls that come in to make the windows logo - they come in frame by frame, pausing for ages on each frame. This whole process means i have to hard reset my computer if i need it quickly and is really really starting to annoy me. Is there anything i can do???

    Note: On further inspection - i've realised that the drive doesn't start spinning while the screen is freezed, and then when it does that's aboutwhen they balls start to come into the screen.

    Any insight would be much appreciated! Thanks!

    Welcome to Seven Forums Longy99.

    Using hibernate will sometimes corrupt files upon resuming. You might try Sleep instead and it should wake nearly instantly, saving what you were doing when it went to sleep.
    Run sfc /scannow
    Hibernate also creates a big, 2-10GB, hiberfil file too. You can try this: Hibernate - Enable or Disable to disable Hibernate, or re enable it if you still want to use it.

    When i try to run an sfc scannow in the command prompt it says: you must be an administrator running a console session in order to use the sfc utility. What does that mean?

    Did you read the Tutorial link? You need to type cmd in the Start orb/Search, right click cmd in search results/ run As Administrator.
    Open elevated CMD prompt.

    I use hibernate as well as sleep on all of my installs with few problems. However issues can be troubleshot via the logs and multiple System resources described in these troubleshooting steps, up to and including testing hardware as it sounds like a RAM problem or video card could be involved.

    If having worked through the troubleshooting steps doesn't solve your problem, then use the tool which the experts use to trace Startup/Shutdown/Sleep/Hibernate issues:
