I lost my MS Win7 Product Key

I can't find my Win7 DVD & Key and I need to re-install Windows7-

If I retrieve my MS Win7 Product Key (with Magic Jelly Bean Key finder), can I use my brothers

retail/boxed Windows 7 installation disk and enter 'my' legal Product Key?

Thanks-

Hi,

Yes, I belive you can, as long as its a retail version of Windows, and not an OEM version.

Please wait until someone more senior has confirmed my reply before proceeding.

Golden is correct. You can use any Win7 retail installer for the same version to reinstall with your own Product Key, whether it's the Product Key which comes in the retail box or on the COA sticker on a factory OEM machine.

I would double check the installed key using Belarc Advisor which will also give you a complete audit of all of your hardware and installed software along with all Product Keys. Belarc Advisor - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

Here are tips for getting a perfect reinstall using this method: Reinstalling Windows 7.
In the first paragraph I deal with how to unlock all versions in the retail installer in case the DVD isn't the same version.

If both the versions match, it's fine using an OEM disk to install - it's the key that counts.

If it is an OEM disc though, you may have to ring MS to activate since OEM discs are meant for "one off/one machine" automatic activations.

EDIT: Ninja'ed

Lost Microsoft product key
Hi, I upgraded my HP W7 laptop to W10 and it is running well. But somehow the sticker with W7 key got removed/lost. I looked behind the battery - not there either. Is there a way to recover it.....? Belarc Advisor showed me a generic W10 key, but I do not think I can use it to reload Windows...

Lost product key >.<
Hey, I've recently had to replace my hard drive and thus had to re-install Windows 7. The disc is one I got in the mail after ordering this laptop. I remember there being a product key on a sticker which was on the case for the disc...but..the sticker is gone? I'm hoping there's another location...
