    2) On the side bar the "Favorites" section is not working. I have done it all.. right clicked on a folder and told it to add to the Favorites. I've dragged the folder over to the Favorites... nothing I've tried works so I gave up. So if there's a way to hide the Favorites link on the side bar I just assume do that as it's a constant reminder that it's broken and I can't seem to use it. If there's a fix then please post!
What sidebar? There is no sidebar in WIndows 7.

Favorites works fine for me in IE8, one of my favorite features. You can sort History to get to anything quickly.

I'm thinking he means the sidebar in explorer, where you can add your favourite locations.
Try navigating to the folder, and then right clicking on the word favourites, then select 'add current location to favourites'.
I just tried dragging and it seems to work for me. Where is the folder that you are trying to add located?

@Krout, after 10 years things are going to change...not just in the tech world either.
I don't want to go back to NC times, I was referring to the changes from XP to Vista and from Vista to 7. Change is good, if it's a good change.

And it has been a good change, IMO.

Hi, I'm sorry, if you would please go re-read my post in the previous page. I updated 1 & 2 so they read a bit more clearly. I understand your confusion, it even confused me!!

    Thanks!

    Hiya,

Yea, tried that. Not working for me... Say I'm downloading something. I usually download to my desktop but sometimes I like to download to a folder on my "E" partition. So I wanted to add both my Desktop and the E:New Downloads links to the Favorites in the download pop up asking where to save the downloads. It's not saving there at all. I use only Firefox 3.5.

Windows 7 takes a long time relatively (22-25 seconds) on my HDD to go from first starting to log in screen while Windows XP by the same measurement did so in just over 10 seconds.

That's what I really don't like about MS in general and Windows 7 in particular. They keep changing the names of the same functions and toss them around. Anybody need examples?
NOPE! Beat that horse to death in 2 threads. I agree with you. It's not going to change though. Our best hope is that MS remembers in the next revision, and bite the bullet on the steep learning curve on this one. Some people will take exception to the learning curve statement, but going from XP to seven required some considerable effort on my part. yes, it chaps me that MS changed things for no apparent reason to me. Over all though though... 7 seems to be a stable platform, and worth the effort to get to know.

A lot of people aren't even going to try. One company starting up in my area bought new computers from dell. I don't know if it's true, but I heard from an employee, Dell actually charged them over $100.00 per computer to keep XP..... and they paid it! If that's true, somebody seriously hates 7!

Stick it out though. it still has issues, but it seems to be very stable, and It grows on you.

To the person who said it boots slower than XP: On what hardware? mine boots quite a bit faster than XP. The only speed issues I have run into, is copying files across a wireless network. XP seems to be faster. I'm using a 2wire wireless gateway, sending to built in recievers in a Dell Insperon (Vista), and HP touchsmart (6100 I believe.)(Vista/Win7), and a 2wire USB reciever on a Sony Vaio (XP). Sending file from the Sony to the Vista machines seems to go faster, than from the 7 machine to the XP, or vista machines. I thought it might be the hardware untill I booted in the Vista mode and sent the same file. (4 gig ISO file) Athough the XP machine is hardwired to the router from time to time (To improve speed.), It wasn't during the test. I can't figure out what's slowing it (7) down.

(Also using Rouku sound bridge, and Apple TV.)

New gripe - In XP, when viewing pictures in a slide show I have the ability to right click and send the picture I'm viewing directly to an editor, Set as a background, or view properties. There is even an "open with" option. These options seem to have dissappeared in Win 7. They are options I use all the time when editing photos. I bring photos up in slide show full screen, and if I don't like them, I can send them to an editor, or view properties to find out which photo it is so I can edit later. I also used to be able to click on a picture, and start the slide show at that point. I could also rotate the picture. The loss of these functions is VERY FRUSTRATING! S@!&!!!! Another set of tools Ripped away on sombodys whim! Am I missing something here????

Go into Firefox > Tools > Options. On the main tab, check and see if Firefox is set to download files straight to the Downloads folder (I think this is the default on Windows 7). Change it to 'always ask' and the popup asking where you want to download will be back.
