    Solved!

    Ok so heres my story:

I downloaded the Windows 7 Untouched ISO 32-bit (hashes match ones from Microsoft). I wanted to test it in VM to see if it would install, it did! Then I wanted to remove the ei.cfg file so I opened the ISO with UltraISO 9.33 (latest version). I deleted the ei.cfg file and clicked "save as" then I saved it to desktop. At this point I was thinking "well that was easy!", then the problems began...

I tried to test this new saved ISO in VirtualBox, so I set that up and when VirtualBox loaded it said something like "Error, no bootable medium found ". I was obviously shocked so I deleted the modified ISO, and opened the original Untouched ISO and repeated the process of deleting ei.cfg file and saving...

I opened VirtualBox again and set it up to load the new saved ISO. It again said "Error, no bootable medium found". I knew I hadn't done anything wrong, that I hadn't made any mistakes. I tried to mount this ISO to see it windows would recognise as a bootable file, it didn't for the first one, the second time I repeated the process windows did say it's bootable, but after unmounting, then trying to mount again, nothing popped up! No setup.exe.

So by now I have worked out a few things: VirtualBox and Windows are having problems with the ISO that UltraISO saved. This can mean only one thing: UltraISO is to blame! So I got rid of it, and installed MagicISO, then repeated this whole process. I ran the ISO that MagicISO had saved on VirtualBox for the first time, and guess what? VirtualBox began loading Windows 7! YAY! Windows also recognised it after mounting the image!

Conclusion: There is clearly a bug in Ultra ISO 9.33 (latest version as of 27th July 2009). MagicISO also has a nicer UI, and all the features of UltraISO . Oh and it's also compatable with Windows 7! No others are...

    Thanks to all who helped.

I don't have problems with this version.

I believe so, I downloaded it a few days ago from the official website, and the version was last updated 11 Feb 2009. So yes I had the very latest version.

WE are all happy you working. It would have been alot easier for all of us if you had told us your system specs, and that you were running it in a VM. this is a prime example of more info being better

    Glad you are working

You also need a license for it.
Maybe it doesn't do a good job in trial version. Just an opinion.

    Solved Part 2!

I previously stated that this problem had been solved, well I jumped the gun!

I said that MagicISO "began loading Windows 7" on VirtualBox in my last few posts. It did, but there was a major error during the setup. Windows reported that install.wim was missing! This means MagicISO also failed to correctly make the ISO image. At this point I was really frustrated.

Then I remembered to try PowerISO, on their website they had posted a new version released today (27th July 2009) named 4.5. In the changelog something caught my attention:

Support WIM, VMDK, VHD, VDI files.
Supports WIM files? Could this mean MagicISO didn't and that's what caused my problem? I began to get my hopes up, I installed it and opened my untouched ISO. I deleted the ei.cfg file and saved the ISO to a new location. I used VirtualBox to load the ISO and it now began installing Windows 7! This time there were no problems and the install went nice and smooth! WOW! JOB DONE! I will never go near MagicISO or UltraISO again.

A big thanks to the PowerISO developers...

Info: I have Windows Vista SP1 32-bit. I was attempting to install Windows 7 32-bit on VirtualBox 3.0.2.

UltraISO works great too. Good to have options!

If you read the first page of this thread, you will see I had major problems with UltraISO. It sometimes skips the boot info from ISO files. I would recommend PowerISO over the pieces of junk that is UltraISO and MagicISO. IMO of course.
