Ha! Good, because I just did it: no integrity violations found......
Shall I just start a fire in the yard and chuck it on it, then....?? :)

Not just yet. :) It could very well be a faulty keyboard did you buy the laptop locally? I should have asked but has it done this from day one?
No.
I'm in the UK and Dell built it and sent via mail order.
No, worked fine until today: the capslock still works great in Word/on here; it's just it closes the 'open' desktop icon box if depressed during the renaming process.
I just discovered that you can use the 'shift' key to alternate between upper and lower case, so it is do-able: just worrying in case it's indicative of something more sinister. Everything else seems to be working just fine, though.
OK I guess one way to eliminate the problem is if someone were to login to your computer say via teamviewer or some other remote desktop software that allows them to create a folder and name it on your computer by using their keyboard to see if it still happens and if not then we know you got a faulty keyboard...Would you want someone to do that?

Apologies for not replying until now; busy at work.
Tried that and it worked just fine: guess it some anomaly!
It pales into insignificance by comparison with my NEW problem with the laptop!!!!!
