    Safe to change OS name in registry?


    I know it is possible to delete that annoying (recovered) label through BCD and with third party utilities.

    Is it safe to make the change MANUALLY in this registry hive?

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\BCD00000000\Objects\{4dc2309a-c51f-11e0-817f-b2e2fca804f6}\Elements\12000004

    Should be, though you may need to edit permissions before you can change. Having said that, please backup everything before you mess around and be prepared to troubleshoot.

    If you mean the OS name in Windows Boot Manager, then yes it's safe to change. Here's another couple of ways to change it as well.

Hi, I've heard some good things about registry cleaners and how they can speed up your system. But, at the same time people also warned me about using them because they can sometimes crash your system by removing an important registry key. I just wanted to know if registry cleaners are safe.
In order to get rid of the *.zip folder view in WinExplorer on a64bit WIn7 system I tried to delete (according to some tutorials) the Registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Classes\CLSID\{E88DCCE0-B7B3-11d1-A9F0-00AA0060FA31} Unfortuantely this is NOT possible immediately....
