How do I get rid of C:\Users\TEMP

Today I removed/installed new Nvidia drivers for my GTX 480.

Now I have a new folder in my Users folder called TEMP (C:\Users\Temp). I have deleted this twice and Win7 just created a new one. I have installed new drivers before using the exact same procedure that I did today and have not had this happen before.

This Temp folder has all the same default folders and files as my User folder did (C:\Users\RJS) when I first installed Windows.

Does anyone know how to get rid of this and not have Win7 rebuild it? It is no big deal, but I just do not like my OS cluttered with useless stuff.

This is a temporary user account. It is generally created when there is a problem or forgotten password with a user profile and provides a temporary logon. I had one once and I think I had to go to Control Panel/Add Remove users and delete it from there.

In Users accounts there is only mine and one for Guest and Guest of off. There is not an account for Temp.

I had a feeling it wasn't that simple. I guess that I deleted the user and scanned the registry for any leftovers. Not something I would recommend to the inexperienced however as you can end up with a non working system.

I think that what is causing it is the Nvidia Updater that was installed when I updated the GTX 480 drivers this morning. When I first noticed the new folder it was called UpdatusUser. After I deleted it the first time Win7 named it Temp when it was recreated.

In the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS NT\CURRENTVERSION\PROFILELIST there are three profiles, all with the same number. There is a UpdatusUser that has a .bak after it that is probably the first one created, a Temp that is the second one created after I deleted the first one in Win Explorer. In the registry I named the temp one _new and after rebooting a new UpdatusUser was created.

I think that the only way I am probably going to be able to get rid of it is to do a complete new clean install of the Nvidia drivers and this time uncheck the Update option.

In Control Panel > Programs, uninstalling Nvidia Update fixed it.

Interesting. Not what I had expected. Thanks for getting back to us with the solution.
