I'm not really sure what this means.
How to: Remove system "Favorites" icon from Windows 7 desktop. What is a system Favorites icon? When you left click on this icon what opens? If you have installed a icon on your desktop and no longer want it just drag and drop to recycle bin. This works most of the time. You can also right click on it and go to delete, this also works most of the time. Get back and let us know how thing are going. |

The system Favorites Icon is distinguishable by an open folder containing a star. It initially contains 21 files in 4 folders (supplied by HP):
Could not find this itemI deleted all the file contents, all four HP folders and all but four user (now empty) folders:
I've considered creating another user and copying all the user files to her and then deleting the original user but would prefer to correct the registry. SevenForums does provide: Favorites - Add or Remove from Navigation Pane - Windows 7 Forumsbut this does not address my problem. I've used the .reg file in Libraries - Add or Remove - Windows 7 Forums <https://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/184056-remove-system-favorites-desktop-icon.html#post1559761> to add the Libraries Desktop Icon which led me to hope for registry instructions. Please let me know if you need more information. Thanks, ~wlf |

Hello WLF,
I'm thinking you may have moved your Favorites folder into the Desktop folder by mistake. Double check using OPTION TWO in the tutorial below to make sure that your C:\Users\(user-name)\Favorites folder is showing it at it's default location. User Folders - Restore Default Location Hope this helps, Shawn |

I used OPTION TWO from the tutorial User Folders - Restore Default Location to remove the "Favorites" Folder from the Windows 7 desktop. But first, I had to move the "Could not find ... no longer located ... etc" deletion error folders to another folder, eg "Trash". Now all I need discover is how to delete these "no longer located" folders!

If you are still unable to delete them normally, then the free program Unlocker may be able to allow you to delete them.

The "Favorites" icon is gone from Windows 7 desktop and the free program Unlocker allowed me to delete the "no longer located" folders!
