I've seen brand new laptops support RAID 0 and RAID 1 (ie: Maingear's EX-L 18). But it is unfortunately yours only does RAID 0. Still, I don't think I've seen any laptop handle a JBOD.

As for the wipe/install I'd just do it and get it over with. But if your laptop can use two HDDs internally in a RAID 0 array, I'd purchase another to match and do it before the new install. The performance gains are worth it since mechanical HDDs are cheap these days.
