My ASUS P8P67 motherboard/BIOS has some known sleep problems that would happen with a new Windows installation too. It's not bad enough that I use hibernate exclusively though. At least 90% of the time it wakes properly and becomes usable in less than 10 seconds. When it freezes once every two or three weeks, hybrid sleep allows me to resume without losing anything. But I digress.
i have windows 7 on my laptop, and i do like it, but i don't see a significant reason why i should have upgraded from XP. the security is the same, i feel like i'm just wasting money on a new taskbar. i just isn't worth it. i have already went back to xp, but we can still help fjawodfc figure out his problem. ia am not dual booting with xp, i don't have the hard disk space. will do some digging to see what my motherboard is, .......
i beleive motherboard is an XPS 200, i know darn well the motherboard is fine, i am running xp currently and everything works flawlessly. still don't understand why windows 7 wouldn't though. out of curiosity, could it be my graphics card is to small? its an ATI Radeon x600 series 128mb imbedded memory. works perfectly on xp, but doesn't on windows 7.
Yours is a quad core CPU? And you put W7 32-bit in it? While I'd expect that to work, I guess now I'm not surprised you might have a Sleep problem.
The PC I'm having trouble Sleep-ing (but no problem Hibernating) has a Q6600 in it with W7HPx64, which I'd upgraded from XP Pro x64 for program compatibility reasons (XP Pro x64 enjoys/enjoyed limited support from software mfrs).
Sorry if I was unclear. I was just mentioning that sleep problems are common. I'm not looking for help.
I asked about the motherboard model not because I think yours is broken but because certain motherboard/BIOS have sleep issues. The video memory and CPU are irrelevant.
If you already went back to XP, are you still interested in solving this? 7 is a lot more than eye candy, by the way. I delayed upgrading from 98 to XP until 2007 but installed 7 soon after it was released, and I'm happy with it. I still have XP installed in case I need to do something there, but I boot it no more than once every month or two.
mine is a dual core processor, not a quad core. this computer was meant for home users, but i have heard of these computers running quad core. my motherboard does support 64 bit, but went with 32 bit b/c thats what my XP version was. idk, hindsight is 20/20 i guess.i am still interested in figuring this out, b/c my college runs windows 7, and i can get it free. windows 7 may be more than just eye candy, but i'm just calling it as i see it, and it just looks like eye candy to me.
see an earlier post about the graphics card. i had read somewhere that this could have been a problem, but it made no sense to me as to how a graphics card could be the problem, especially if it is compatible according to Microsoft?
If the video card was a problem then the PC should still do SOMETHING when you wake it up. From what you've said, it doesn't even power up and the LED continues to flash, right? That seems to suggest a different cause. But you've already reverted to XP, right?
well, the pc powers on and the led quits flashing, but i get no picture on the monitor. thats why i initially thought it was the graphics card.
Ah, okay, that changes things. I thought it wasn't responding at all, i.e. staying in sleep mode. Can you tell whether it's completely frozen or Windows is actually running but there's just no picture? One way to check would be to press Caps Lock on your keyboard and see if the indicator lights up. If it's 100% frozen then it's similar to my problem.
i don't beleive its frozen, because if i smash a bunch of keys in i can hear windows go "ding", so i'm sure its not frozen.
