    formatted drive in error

    guys hello and good morning.
i've gone and done a dumb-ass thing of formatting my data drive in error, it turns out I didn't back it up either .... now yes, I know very stupid of me etc etc, I've been traumatised enough already lol ...

Can someone please suggest a free unformat tool* - I've searched google but unless I am clouded by the shock of data loss, I can't seem to find anything suitable ... besides, I am sure at one point one of you has done the same thing and may have a good recommendation of software they used?

    Cheers all!

*the drive was and is formatted to NTFS so ideally need a tool that runs in Windows XP or 7 thank you.

I can recommend this one: Recuva - Download

You can also try this one: http://www.easeus.com/datarecoverywi...y-software.htm

Another possibility I've heard good things about is Getdataback, available here:

GetDataBack Data Recovery - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

Most of these apps allow you to view the recoverable files for no charge, but you have to pay to be able to actually recover the files from the drive.
