It also sounds like a Windows Home Server would be a better choice for you than a second computer.
    Hmmm,

Is a home server a complicated thing? I don't want to get in over my head. I am a user but have no IT skills.

No, that's the point of the product. It lets you set up a server for storage, backup, streaming, etc without any server/IT skills.

I believe the new version costs around $60 USD, and can even be made to run on an older computer.

How about using an external HD?, this way you do not have to about viruses and can update the files that you use as you need.

I like Syncback for keep multiple runtime folders synchronized between to machines, and for doing backups. Might be something to look into.

Free backup software - SyncBack Freeware - free data backup software

    Good luck,

I know how you want to keep the two computers synced together, What I mentioned earlier was just a suggestion and thought it might be easier to keep your files protected. Just a thought thats all. Should I want to sync multiple computers together I will remember what was mentioned on this post as I learned something knew. Thanks for the lesson.
