Windows flash too fast on shutdown.

Sometimes a window opens when I shutdown the computer and it flashes so fast I can not see what it says, usually it is that some program must shut down before it can shut down, I wand to know what is impeding the shutdown

Hello akd200 and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you suspect that the window that flashes by is saying something needs to be shut down before Windows 7 can shut down, I have to ask: are you shutting down Windows 7 while you still have other programs running? If so, close all open programs before shutting down Windows 7. And how are you shutting down Windows 7? With the computer power button or by clicking the Start orb > Shutdown?

It's also possible that you may have malware on your system. What security program(s) do you use and have you scanned your computer recently for malware?

Sounds like it *might* be that screen that says something along the lines of "Program xyz is not responding... would you like to wait or force exit?" Usually they end up closing by themselves, so that message doesn't stay on-screen for long.

marsmimar: Thanx for the fast reply! I am a slacker on how I shut it down, I never close programs and usually grab the closest thing to shut it down, (not usually the power cord though)! CreepinJesus hit it on the head about what the window is about and sometimes I want to read that page, is there no way to view it?

I had this problem once after updating my video card drivers, downgrading to the previous version fixed it. Have you recently updated your video drivers?

I get this sometimes on my laptop, so I checked out the Event Viewer to see if anything's left behind in there... and the answer is "possibly"!

So, open up Event Viewer, then expand to Applications and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > Diagnostics-Performance > Operational. In here, look for events with the Event ID in the 200s - 201 seems to be what we're after "This application caused a delay in the system shutdown process". There should be some information displayed there about the application that took too long to shut down.

    Hope that helped!

CreepinJesus affirmed what I already suspected, I had a hard time paying attention with watching Artimas Racing do very well in Americas Cup!

I followed this, and after a referral to an MS page, a bit of trial & error with startup items reached by msconfig, discovered Logitech's point program was the culprit. That was the last one I suspected because it worked well on the other machine I previously had that keyboard installed on. (Sorry I blamed you epson eeventmanager )
