Would This Qualify As A Windows 7 Bug ?

Not sure if this has been noted or whether a work around or fix has been made available but every time I use the search pane in windows explorer each letter I type it cuts off focus and searches immediately..

Example: I'm in Uninstall or change a program and wish to use the search pane to quickly search out the program but as I begin to type my 2nd letter it has cut off and tried to query the results.

It doesn't work as it should like the search pane in start menu. Is it a bug or by design ?

No not a bug, it's how it's supposed to work.

I had to test this. At least two PCs where I tested, one Seven and one Eight, search does not behave as you said.

Searching starts as soon as I start typing, narrowing with each character typed, but it does not steal focus, I can continue typing to narrow results even more.

It works fine, and as Cyclic mentioned here above, exactly as it is supposed to work. Type to search field, every character typed narrows your search giving better results.

Ok but after you type your first letter in explorer search pane does it redefine the results by refreshing / blinking meaning you have to mouse click back into the search pane to enter the 2nd letter or is this just me ?

It only works as expected if I type real fast and I'm not a slow typer

Something wrong with your Windows if it is behaving like that. As I mentioned, search does not steal the focus, you should be able to continue typing.

I recommend you tu run System File Checker SFC with /scannow switch to see if Windows needs to be repaired: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

I just tested it out. I see the mouse cursor transforming to "thinking" mode but I can continue to type as expected. Maybe another application is causing it to lose focus?

I recently had that problem with my friends laptop. While playing ang full screen game, it kept on coming back to the desktop because a badly coded T-Stick USB modem update was opening every minute or so.
