How exactly do I connect my laptop to HDTV using VGA to RGB (Yprpb)?

    • Hi, I have a Windows 7 Compaq Presario CQ61 with AMD M880G withi ATI Mobitility Radeon HD 4200. Last night I tried to connect my laptop to my HDTV. Now, I know I was very close, because I had it on the right input and I did something (I don't know what), it sent the signal to the TV, showing half of the image from the laptop, the rest looks as if a TV cable wire wasn't hooked up properly. So I'm not sure what the problem could be. Help would really be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Does your tv have just the one rgb set of inputs and are the cable plugged into all the same input, then when in that input on the TV have you played with any resolution setting within the TV? Also have you set up the laptop to extend it's desktop to the new seen monitor/generic TV.

There are two sets of inputs for rgb and none of them made a difference and they are plugged in in the same input as well. Now, about the resolution, I didn't really configure anything, because I wasn't sure how that worked. But I'll give it a try.

As for the extend it's desktop to the new seen monitor/generic TV, I had been using "Projector Only," could that have been the problem?

what kind of cable or adapters are you using?
VGA won't go straight to Component.

I'm only using a VGA to RGB cable. I mean, I almost had it last time, some images were shown on the TV but it looked really bad. Now, nothing's showing up, I don't even remember what I did before. Another thing, what is this "Generic non-Pnp monitor"? Because it just showed up, is that my TV by any chance? Sorry for all these questions, I'm kinda new to this stuff. lol

I'd like to try this along with you. Given my computer and my TV interface, it all looks as simple as a single cable.

My concern: Do I have a cable length limitation to deal with?

OK! I got most of it on the tv, but why does it keep flashing so much?? I'm getting close now, do I have to configure something on the tv, or does this have something to do with the resolution on my laptop?

Great. Fifty foot is far more than I would need. I could make the connection, without relocating any furniture, with about a 25' cable.

    Thanks for your response.

I would think that a fifty foot cable is the problem. Keep all cables as short as possible and to expect the signal both audio and video to not have interference and or have huge resistance over such distances would be my first concern. Move your laptop right next to the TV and run a standard 1-2 meter cable and see the difference.
