Since the drive tests you did indicate a failed drive, it may not be possible to recover your files with "normal" means. If you can't access/read the drive from another drive with Ubuntu you'll most likely have to get professional forensics help to recover. IT is VERY expensive.
    Either
...Should i clone hard disk or Create an image of my hard disk?

    OR

Should i go for ubuntu to back up my data...?

If you can get any function out of the HD such as to clone or test it using Hitachi Fitness Test then you can copy out your files using the Win7 DVD or Repair CD, or free Paragon Rescue CD. Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console
    Paragon Rescue CD

If so, I would copy out my files now then run the bootable Hitachi HD diagnostics repeatedly to see if it will repair.

Have you correctly burned the Hitachi DFT ISO to a CD using Windows Image Burner or ImgBurn? If so boot it and see if it recognizes HD. Is HD also seen in BIOS setup?

I would download ubuntu 10.10 and the burn it to cd. Boot up and select use ubuntu without install. After it boots as long as the hard drive isn't completely borked (not likely) you will have access to all the files. Just open the file manager and locate your ntsf volume (pretty easy). Navigate through the folders and copy and paste to a usb and then try to re install windows.

Depends on how confident you feel (about using Linux and the Terminal).

If you are sure that you have saved everything important, you can try the procedure described in this article:
Ubuntu+disk+tool+repair+ntfs | Laptop Driver, Computer Software, Smartphone Apps

    Note:
I haven't tried this procedure. Use at your own discretion.

I think there is an error/omission in the description.

    I think that this command:
    sudo lilo -M /dev/ mbr
    Should actually read:
    sudo lilo -M /dev/<device name> mbr
He also describes some things strangely.

    He wrote:
"Replace <device name> with your Windows partition (e.g. /dev/sda2) and hit Enter."
    IMO, he should have written:
"Replace /dev/<device name> with your Windows partition (e.g. /dev/sda2) and hit Enter."

I have just tried this procedure...but still BSOD comes up with Unmountable_Boot_Volume error...

well by using ubuntu 11.04 disk utility i have found that my hard disk has 917663 bad sectors..

Is there any command to fix these bad sectors using ubuntu? i have heard about fsck or something like that...?

    Or

Should i use "HDD Regenerator" to repair my hard disk boot sectors?
i have heard that it fixes some of the bad sectors....

Another option would be to take the drive out and slave it into another PC. Then use that PC's OS to copy any data you can to another drive. Once you have recovered what you can, erase the drive and junk it. Then replace it with a new one.

Why are you using Linux tools on Win7? This is a Win7 forum.

I gave you the steps to copy out your data using the Win7 DVD or Repair CD which is just as simple.

We have been waiting for you to run the Hitachi Drive Fitness test, perhaps the very best extended HD diagnostics and repair scan in the business.

Instead of using another OS's tools, please focus on burning the HDFT ISO file to DVD using Windows Image Burner or Imgburn, booting it and running the Extended test.

If he doesn't have another Windows PC ...

He can run Linux off of a CD (no HDD required).

I had a version of Windows that would run from a CD (many years ago) but I haven't' heard of any new versions (Vista or Windows 7) that do it.

If he doesn't have another Windows PC, how is he going to create a DVD using Windows tools (Windows Image Burner or Imgburn)?

He would need to find another computer to burn the HD test, just as he would to burn a Linux disk. Being able to fix serious problems such as this require access to another computer for these reasons.
