I would download ubuntu 10.10 and the burn it to cd. Boot up and select use ubuntu without install. After it boots as long as the hard drive isn't completely borked (not likely) you will have access to all the files. Just open the file manager and locate your ntsf volume (pretty easy). Navigate through the folders and copy and paste to a usb and then try to re install windows.

Thank you guys for your support.. i have been able to access my hard drive through ubuntu...i have saved all of my important data in an external hard drive..
Now i would like to ask if there is any way i could fix my windows boot up problem or repair hard disk bad sectors using ubuntu?:)

Depends on how confident you feel (about using Linux and the Terminal).

If you are sure that you have saved everything important, you can try the procedure described in this article:

I think there is an error/omission in the description.

I think that this command:

sudo lilo -M /dev/ mbr

Should actually read:

sudo lilo -M /dev/<device name> mbr

He also describes some things strangely.

He wrote:

IMO, he should have written:

"Replace /dev/<device name> with your Windows partition (e.g. /dev/sda2) and hit Enter."

I have just tried this procedure...but still BSOD comes up with Unmountable_Boot_Volume error...

well by using ubuntu 11.04 disk utility i have found that my hard disk has 917663 bad sectors..

Is there any command to fix these bad sectors using ubuntu? i have heard about fsck or something like that...?

Another option would be to take the drive out and slave it into another PC. Then use that PC's OS to copy any data you can to another drive. Once you have recovered what you can, erase the drive and junk it. Then replace it with a new one.

Why are you using Linux tools on Win7? This is a Win7 forum.

I gave you the steps to copy out your data using the Win7 DVD or Repair CD which is just as simple.

We have been waiting for you to run the Hitachi Drive Fitness test, perhaps the very best extended HD diagnostics and repair scan in the business.

Instead of using another OS's tools, please focus on burning the HDFT ISO file to DVD using Windows Image Burner or Imgburn, booting it and running the Extended test.

He would need to find another computer to burn the HD test, just as he would to burn a Linux disk. Being able to fix serious problems such as this require access to another computer for these reasons.
