Double check to make sure that the Windows Search service is set to Started and Automatic. If disabled, you could still do a non-index search in normal Windows Explorer folders, but libraries require the index for search to work in them.

Typing anything into the search box on the start menu or in windows explorer/control panel has no effect, no results are found. It doesnt say no result are found it just displays nothing. This extends to everything, searching for files as well as things like 'cmd' and 'regedit'....
After installing a registry fix to fix my issue with renaming/moving/creating folders, the search function seems to be broken in the start menu.

When I have Explorer open and enter "New York City", including the quotes, and tell the Search to search within files, it returns the names of all files containing the word New, OR the word York, OR the word City. What am I doing wrong???
