Hdd blinks because.... you didn't read the instructions from Microsoft.

If you have a battery back up.. then it you might be able to disable 'Microsoft Write Cache Flushing' in Device Manager on your drives. Try it - Look at your hard drive light.
That is if the drive has it's own power supply, not a battery backup. Disabling it is a good way to lose data in a power loss.

Does selecting "Hide empty drives in the Computer folder" have any effect regarding the light flashing issue?

    I solved the blinking

I solved the blinking as per follow:

    - Changed phisically SATA connection from Intel P55 controller, to Marvell controller on the motherboard. I have Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4 with 2 onboard controller

Moreover I noticed that Intel controller was setted up as AHCI in BIOS setting for complete SSD functionality, while Marvell controller was setted in IDE mode. I don't know if it is relevant.

After this changing my CD/DVD Drive has stopped blinking

I'll glad if it can help somebody to solve the light blinking.

If you have an Intel system using the Intel controller and AHCI will give you somewhat better performance. Just tape ove the light.
