How do i know If its a bad HDD or not?

    Hello everyone,
its my 1st post in this site that gave me alot of support in many issues so i want to say Thank You for members of this forums...

-i just have a problem with my laptop it started after i bought it with 2 months till nw (it's been a year for that)

my issue is that the windows slow (and its not from win itself)+ sometimes not booting (and its not a cyclic-booting issue) + recovering files from bad clusters every time i do chkdsk...
++(i made tests on every hardware and its working)++
and in order to make it normal again i have to
    chkdsk /f /R ( for all partitions)+format C and install win

-also i remember that at time it read my 260 GB as RAW...and wasted my data... i couldnt know the reason !!!

-(and this maybe not scientific at all but i noticed it) -->when i change the sata mode from AHCI to IDE (i tried installing separate on IDE then format and instal win on AHCI mode)
the OS dont get heavy too fast like when it on AHCI
    --> ide after a week ...AHCI after 2-3 days....:S

-its Acer aspire 4741G with WD hdd
    of this info:::
Model Family: Western Digital Scorpio Blue Serial ATA
    Device Model: WDC WD5000BEVT-22A0RT0
    Serial Number: WD-WXL1C10L2475
    LU WWN Device Id: 5 0014ee 6001540fb
    Firmware Version: 01.01A01
User Capacity: 500,106,780,160 bytes [500 GB]
    Sector Size: 512 bytes logical/physical
Device is: In smartctl database [for details use: -P show]
    ATA Version is: 8
ATA Standard is: Exact ATA specification draft version not indicated
    ---------------
i entered parted magic form Hiren's boot Cd
i wiped the disk using method 1 (external)
-(i tried internal before but again with no hope)-
i made an extended self test...it gave me no errors
and i took this scr shot of the attributes:

i understand that when reallocated sector count value "0" its ok//and when Raw read error rate Not "0" means there is errors
and icouldnt understand what about spin rate
BUT the most important what is the Pre-failure type and old age????
    iam tired of this laptop....

    Thanks in advance,

    Hi,

Under the circumstances, I think the best thing is to check the HDD with the makers utility, try this:

Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

You can run the built-in system Diagnostic test after pressing F12 (or whatever button you press to go into BIOS).

I wouldn't trust any software in linux. use your mobo's bios self check if it has one or use western digital's data lifeguard tools that works inside windows or dos.

I would run the Extended Scan from Data Lifeguard Dos ISO burned to CD and then booted. It can repair a HD run in tandem with Disk Check.
