Windows 7: Unable to load past "Starting Windows" no matter what method

Unable to load past "Starting Windows" no matter what method

My machine was working fine. I had been on it for a couple hours just doing regular internet browsing. I tried to open a program (EverQuest 2) and it would open then immediately crash "EverQuest 2 has encountered an error". So I figured, reboot the machine. After the POST, it tells me to either launch start up repair or start normally. I chose start normally. It would go to the "starting windows" screen and the logo will not show up. it just stays there.

Powered down, and after the POST got the same options again. I picked start up repair this time. It would load the bar and show "loading windows files" or whatnot and when the bar would get completely full, it would freeze there.

My computer doesnt have a CD/DVD drive, I installed Windows 7 from USB. So I plugged the USB drive back into the computer and tried booting from that. It would go thru the "loading windows files" just fine, I can see the drive flashing as its being accessed. When the bar filled up, it would progress to "Starting Windows" screen, and stop blinking and just sit there... doing nothing. Tried using Safe Mode. Wouldn't load either.

I have not a clue what I should be looking for to even start getting it working again. The only physical change I've made to the system was plugging in another monitor to my graphic card. And even then, I've shut down and rebooted and it's been just fine.

Any help, advice, or a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Try also tapping F8 key at boot to access System Recovery Options to see if the Repair console is on that menu. If so, run Startup Repair which should automate System Restore among myriad tests. If not run it separately from the Recovery Tools list, to get behind the installation of the problem program.

If no WinRE on F8 menu then I'd find an external DVD/CD drive to boot the DVD Repair console or REpair CD to try these.

You can copy out your files if necessary using CD/DVD: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console
or booting Paragon Rescue CD.

Then run eMachines full Factory Recovery from its partition using the given hotkey at boot.

Checked the ram. Nothing wrong there. Also any option I chose in the F8 menu gave no success. Would still get stuck "loading".

I tried putting the HDD in another machine to see if I could get it to boot up fine. It did. without any issues. Placed it back in my machine and didn't work still. I dunno what prompted me to do so, but I unplugged everything from the back of my computer except the monitor. Tried booting and it worked. When I got to the log on screen, obviously, plugged the devices back in (mouse, keyboard, Ethernet, speakers). Then tried a reboot to see if it would crap out again. and it didn't. Working fine as of now. Dunno what device was the issue. Must be temperamental.

Thnx for the suggestions, appreciate it.

Determine which device is hanging boot by process of elimination.
