Windows 7 Explorer has stopped working entirely.

Hello i have this problem with windows 7 ultimate x64 where when i click on my computer, windows explorer or any other folder or location it fails to load the contents. As you can see from the picture it also does not show the pinned places in the left sidebar and and doesnt let me click on them. This issue just started randomly today and its really annoying me because i obviously cant do anything.

Can someone please tell me what is wrong and how to fix it - Thankyou

Something similar happened to me some years back and it was something simple... can't remember exactly what but was fixable by clicking on one of the top categories...try Organize -> Layout and make sure everything is checked to appear.

Make that Menu bar, Details pane and Navigation pane... the "preview pane" when selected might be the problem, but try toggling it if the other doesn't work.... it had something to do with these in my case anyway. HTH!

Underneath where it says "Search Computer" on the upper right-hand side, there is a menu pane icon, just to the left of the question mark. Click on that paned icon and see what happens...

Might also try using Task Manager to end the explorer.exe process, then (use TM again) to restart it, by clicking the New Task button and entering explorer.exe in the field.

You're very welcome but which solution worked? Re-starting Explorer? (Good for future readers to know.) :) Have a good one!

Yes it was re-starting explorer.exe with task manager.
