    Permissions For File Deletion?

I have only user account in Win7 (which is an Admin account, named "Admin") now when I go to one of my backup drives (in this case "D:\") and attempt to delete certain directories it gives me

"Folder Access Denied - You Require permission from TrustedInstaller to make changes to this folder"

it should be noted that im trying to delete a previous Win7 installation on a drive which isn't my main drive. (nuking the directories one by one, as i have other backed up data on the drive i dont want to interfere with)

I attempted to alter the permission for TrustedInstaller, allowing full access, but i continue to get the error.

    Suggestions please?

Have you tried 'Taking Ownership' first?

I did actually. Just a minute ago. I changed ownership to Admin-PC, which is my account that im logged into. The only one I have created for that matter. However the error remains the same, cept you can substitute Admin-PC/PC for TrustedInstaller in the main error message I quoted.

"Windows" "Program Files" "Program Files (x86)" -- All on a drive that isnt my current active Windows installation. It was back when i first started testing one of the Win7 betas. My current Windows install is on C:\ and these files im trying to delete are on D:\ . Many other files exist that I dont want to delete so formatting the drive really isnt an option

If you have taken ownership correctly then you should be able to do whatever you like with them as long as they aren't beg used or part of your current OS.

Did you actually try using the Take ownership context menu shortcut.

I faced exactly the same problem when upgrading my Windows 7 build and did not find any very convenient solution. In case no one else knows about any good solution, a last resort you can use (which WILL work, but is quite the hassle) is to download Ubuntu from the official Ubuntu site and burn it to a CD, boot Ubuntu directly from the CD and then find the files using it and delete them (it seems Ubuntu ignores all permissions on NTFS filesystems).

Yeah it's not the ideal solution, but it does work.

Seems like he is trying to delete the windows old folder. That is a tough folder to delete, as advised, you need to take ownership of the folder from the root so that it can propagate to the sub folders. Download and merge this reg key: http://files.getdropbox.com/u/976813...20registry.reg
then right click on the main folder, the choose take ownership, and wait for the settings to finish, then try deleting the folder. I am working on a reg script that will allow you set a folder for delete on reboot. I will try to have it finished today.
Edit: the power of google is always respected, lol. There is a tool already created: http://www.cfishelltoys.com/download.asp you can use it with full functionality for 45 days. Hopefully it won't take you 45 days to delete your folder, lol.

It seems i found the major issue, after taking ownership, i had to then adjust the permissions for Admin-PC...specifically checking :

"Include inheritable permissions from this objects parent" AND
"Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object"

Once i did that the folders went to the recycle bin!
