The downside is that many makers don't have the latest drivers available, which could be a problem if you're having an issue with a particular version of the driver. This is actually the case here if you go to the Asus website as their latest/only graphics driver is from 11/2/2009. NVIDIA has the latest driver as 10/24/2011. So, sometimes you have to pick your poison. Personally, I'd take the latest edition of a graphics driver with a bunch of known problems fixed rather than the possible added F-button functionality.

Function key compatibility is only of of many modifications an OEM will make to a GFX driver. Most nVIDIA and AMD GFX drivers won't install on a laptop without a great deal of issues and problems arising. The OEM's have available their own latest drivers.

Right, but the only available graphics driver on the ASUS website for this laptop is two years old. NVIDIA's latest release of these drivers are from today with two years' worth of fixes and enhancements that could very easily have already addressed this user's issue. There is nothing to lose in installing them straight from NVIDIA. If they don't fix the issue, you can easily revert back, but there's no sense in not trying them because some people have had issues in doing so. Not to say it can't happen, but I've never had a problem installing graphics drivers on any of my laptops directly from NVIDIA or ATI.

Yes if there is a monitor driver listed try that. Did you use Revo Uninstaller to remove your old graphics driver? there's a link below my sig.

Well there doesn't seem to be a display driver, common for a lap top.
As for the driver, use Revo Unistaller and reinstall your driver. The nVIDIA driver clean install isn't clean always, I know I have nVIDIA GFX.

EDIT: Correction here, you should use Driver Sweeper instead. http://phyxion.net/item/driver-sweeper.html

Reading this thread I'd like to go back to what Britton posted earlier....

Hello Italia366. This might be your graphics chip over heating, have you blown the dust out of the laptop recently?
Go to control Panel/Color Management and make sure you have Use my settings for this device checked as shown.

Is it possible for you to post an image like the one Britton posted?

What I'm looking to see is what you have as default ICC profile.

The other thing you need to do is check to see what your video card is using for color temperature? Sort of like this......

yours may be different but this is to give you a general idea of what you're looking for. If there's a default switch or something like that click it and see what happens? Post an image of that one too if you can.

And yeah it could be a driver issue too, but.....

There is a display driver on that page. It's under "VGA". And it's from November of 2009 as I talked about earlier.

That is correct, the display adapter driver, not a monitor driver, I've confused the two before myself.
