Windows 7: Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit issues with desktop freezing/ other issues

Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit

Hey gregrocker,I am ONE HAPPY MAN tonight... after days of fighting with this PC, I am finally victorious and got it up and running again! I was literally minutes from reformatting and then read your post where it talks about booting into the windows DVD to copy files over from one drive to another and got an idea...What is that idea you ask... well;Ok so I think I had mentioned at one point I could no longer boot into reg dsktop or safe mode. I then kept just resetting the PC since this was the only way to reboot and try something else... what had happened waswhen you do this, sometimes the OS will not dismount the system and you get stuck with messages that you have a pending repair etc when trying an SFC /SCANNOW or repair.. well, I found a solution that worked for me and hopefully will work for others out there...OK so back to the post I was taking about where you listed how to copy files form one HD to another using the install CD. I loaded my install CD and then clicked on "Load Drivers", after hitting OK on the next window, you then get the explorer window where it showed the different drives you may have listed. So I RIGHT MOUSE CLICKED on the C: drive which was the drive that was not booting, then PROPERTIES, then under TOOLS, I clicked CHECK NOW, making sure that both "check files for errors" AND "fix bad sectors" were checked. What this does is force the system to UNNMOUNT the drive and off I went.. the system found errors and bad sectors that it fixed. Now, what is VERY IMPORTANT is that when logging back into the system, you HAVE TO BE PATIENT as after the system fixed whatever it did, it took quite a while for the PC to fully boot up, it did freeze for a little bit but after it completed what it needed to in the background, my PC is back to working perfectly and is what I am using right now!!!YAY!!!!

Nice workaround.

You can also run Disk Check with any parameters from the System Recovery Options
Command Line.
