Seven (don't choose only because you use it at the moment)
XP
Thank you, I didn't realize that.
FYI: Pentium M is 32bit only.
Finding a driver to run native resolution on my lappy was a real b*tch.
None of the vista or recent xp drivers worked.
Ended up with the 81.89 which was made for longhorn build.
After fiddling with the nv4disp.inf a bit, it installed perfectly.
Had zero problems with this setup.
what may seem real in terms of big improvements with 7 are mostly the result of very clever marketing which planted the idea by first 'leaking' a completely stripped barebones 7 core.
It was noticeable faster obviously. Once that idea was stuck and all over the net you're preprogrammed to look favorably on 7 whatever it does.
Now the 7 is dressed up it performs on par with Vista.
Hence, reality is in the eye of the beholder.
reality (whatever that means ) was/is/always will be in the eyes of the beholder.
i just wondered about your link...
*edit* nearly got my 400 posts :)
Sorry Petrossa, but I have to disagree with you.
Subjectivity is not my thing, and Win7 (on all my machines):
1. is starting up in 12 to 20 seconds, where XP took 1.5 to 2 minutes
2. Recovering from standby is almost instant, where XP took about 15 seconds.
3. File transfers have gone up by 10 to 30 % (depending on the machine)
4. CPU usage on my recording machine has dropped by 50% compared to running the same project under XP.
(for the first time I don't have to freeze tracks anymore to avoid having crackles in the sound)
Laptop idle Cpu is now 3%, where under XP was 21%.
5. Transfer rates over my gigabit network have gone up by 15% compared to XP
(on vista it was horribly slow)
6. Vsti's (virtual instruments) crashing is thing of the past now. (past being XP)
7. and this is very important to me. The UI is so efficient and easily tweakable I spend at least 50% less time on clicks and double clicks to get where I want. Especially the libraries are a godsend.
I have to make note that on all my machines I completely disabled indexing and search (as I always did in XP too)
Disabling those services boosted Win7 beyond XP.
So Win7 is here to stay for me, XP is history.
Maybe you're XP hasn't been tweaked too well,it's hard to believe it's starting up only in 12-20 seconds!
I think that too,for me Windows Seven it's like an update for Vista,a little bit faster(a tweaked vista)!what may seem real in terms of big improvements with 7 are mostly the result of very clever marketing which planted the idea by first 'leaking' a completely stripped barebones 7 core.

It's all about marketing!
