    64 Bit issues

I'm going to preface this with saying I've had no problems running anything up until today. However, as I logged on today nothing wants to run. It looks as though it's an issue with 32 Bit programs. But I'm not positive. Very few programs currently on my computer will run. I can see them starting in the task manager but they immediately stop. None of my Internet programs(IE, Opera, Firefox). The only one currently capable of running is the 64 bit IE.

My first instinct was to run Ad Aware. However, that won't start. It doesn't even run on startup as it is supposed to. I tried to run dxdiag just to see if it would. Got nothing. I read something that recommended downloading and installing Malware bytes. It downloaded but never gave me the installation screen(I'm assuming thats apart of the things that now won't work). None of the programs running under my hidden icons on the taskbar are doing anything if I click them.

I tried running in safe mode. Same problems. I've tried a System restore, to a point yesterday morning when the computer worked fine. Didn't help. I tried a Chkdsk. Nadda. I've got Windows Defender(Apparently it works) scanning now in hopes of finding something. But I'm not holding my breathe. One of my other thoughts was maybe the firewall just went heywire and decided to block everything. But I can't even get to my firewall. That too won't come up on screen.

Sorry if this seems a bit wordy. But does anyone have any idea what could be up?

Few quick other bits of info:

    Windows Home 7 Premium
    64 Bit Operating system

Quick Edit, I'm staring at Task Manager and it seems like I'm seeing a an "svchost.exe*32bit" running and crashing repeatedly under the list of processes. Could that be an issue?

Still may indeed be malware. Try downloading Malware again and installing (and running it) in safe mode.

Also, if you can get into event viewer see what is logged there.

There are several ways to find what the problem is. The best is to go into event viewer (type eventvwr in search). Event viewer (local) and look for errors listed in the last day, week, etc. Then go to the windows log>application tab. Finally the windows Logs>system tabs.

You want to look for all errors (they have red in the left column ).

When you find them you want to look for critical errors that say app hang, app crash, or anything that relates to the problem.

When you find them please note the event ID, and the source codes and tell us what they are.

It really sounds like a malware style issue to me, some type of rootkit possibly too.

Tried MalwareBytes again. Still nothing. Downloaded to the desktop so I could keep trying to run the installtion. But when I do nothing loads.

    Looking through event viewer now.

    Under Window Logs>System:
Two critical(Both the same): ID 41, Source Kernal-Power.
    Errors:
Multiple ID's of 7000 and 7009, Source Service Control Manager
    ID 10010, Source DistributedCOM
ID 7001, Source Service Control Manager
    ID 1060, Source Application popup
    ID 10005, Source DistributedCOM
ID 7026, Source Service Control Manager
There are also warnings that caught my eye ID 219, Source Kernal-PnP

From the looks of it, these errors started this morning. Everything prior has been clean. But today has been just repeating instances of these errors.

    Windows>Application:
ID 80, Source SideBySide (Reading the description these are all related to something involving something called CoziExpress?)
    ID 1000, Source Application error

Side note, Windows Defender just finished a full scan. Found nothing.

That's not going to work. I can't actually install anything. It will download and everything but like MalwareBytes, when I hit run, nothing happens.

Should also note I got it saved to the desktop as the tutorial states. But trying to open it brings up the Run/Don't run choice and hitting run does nothing.

Maybe try the system sweeper from MS, it's OS independent and runs direct from a CD to scan your computer...

it doesn't install, you may want to right click and run as administrator

Can i ask what Anti virus program you have installed?

Edit: also it may help to run in Safe mode if you can not run from your standard Admin account.

Other then using Ad-Aware(Or whatever the virus part of it is called....Ad-Watch Live or something?) I don't think this laptop has had anything on it. Although atm, because Ad Aware is among the programs that won't load up, I don't think anything at all is used.

...Running as an admin doesn't do anything. I'll try safe mode next.
