    Windows Installer doesn't work

    Hello,

I have a small problem with a recently downloaded .MSI file. Whenever I try to run it, I first get a window that says: ''Windows Installer is preparing setup'', as expected.
Afterwards, the window closes and nothing happens. No error messages or installation, just nothing.

I tried redownloading, but with the same result. However, when I try to remove the file, I get an error that I can't, because it's opened in Windows Installer.

I remember having the same problem with an older laptop with a different installation file, but after a few weeks it suddenly just worked.
Does anyone have an idea how to fix this (other than just wait :) )?

Are you using MucAfee or one of the paid bloatware AV's? Replace with Microsoft Security Essentials

Try System Restore to a point before the problem occurred.

Try a Clean Boot: in msconfig>Startup uncheck everything (add back in AV later), then in msconfig>Services choose Hide All MS Services then uncheck all again. After reboots check back for any which snuck back in and turn them off in Program Prefs or Uninstall.

Try the Windows Installer Fix from this list #94: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

    Run SFC -SCANNOW Command

    Next try a Repair Install..
