    To Earlz,

I will see if there's a registry setting for it.

    I'll post back asap.

you can select 'sort by' on the right-click context menu whatever view you have...
Thats not what im looking for, what im looking for is the same choices on that context menu but placed above in a bar form like on the screenshot.

Your screenshot tells us you have chosen "Group by name" or "Group by tags", the blue icons are group icons.

Details you want are not seen in group view.

Like i said, im only after the sorting view not the sorting by type.. ignore the boxes i dont care about them see the 2nd image i posted with a redmark, that was a default view with vista.

you can only get that in detail view. Bothers me too. It has been taken out in list view on the assumption that detail columns serve no purpose elsewhere then in detail view.

Ah, 2 steps forward, one back.
Im confident theres a way to get that back in windows7

Squonksc, IMHO I don't think so. OP shows an image of group view. He should choose "Group by (None)" from context menu and use detail view.

Not sure but I think so.

This is what i mean, a sort by bar ( in red circle ) that is usable in any view type. By default vista has this sorting bar visible on any view type.

    Hi Earlz,

Like I promised, I've done some research on internet and went through the registry with a tooth comb.

Bad news is, that it's not there and there is no way to get it back.

Microsoft decided that details bar belongs to details view.

However there is good news too.

And I think if you take some time to get used to it, you might even come to love it. (as is the case with many new things)
    ------------------------------------------------

In all the views that don't have the bar, you can rightclick on a empty space in the view. (hence not on a file or folder)

You'll find that in the contextmenu are two options named "sort by" and "group by".

The "sort by" option will give you the same options you had with the "sort bar", but much more powerfull.

By default the "Sort by" menu show the properties you are used to, like "Name, Date, Type, etc...."
But when you look down a bit you'll see "More".

When you click that, you'll find an insane list of properties you can set, to tweak your views to the max.

So worst case for you, is that you instead of one click like in Vista, now you have to rightclick/leftclick to get the same result.

I take it you can live with that.

    Now, that's not all.

The "Group by" option in the context menu is nothing short of a gem!

You have the same set of parameters, and under the "more" option is the same insane list of properties you can set.

Go and experiment for an hour or so with it, give it some time, and you might just fall in love with it.

    If not?

Hey, I did my best. Hope you appreciate it.

Thank you so much for going through all of that trouble to help me, i really appreciate it. As current ive been using the context menu but the sorting on the bar was infinitely faster though but i guess i have to live with this changes.. I do hope MS returns this feature some day.

How to get the view sorting bar back to w7 ?

Yes, unfortuantely even looking at an example of the details sort bar on a non details view just /looks/ like an eror in the UI.

Even though it had utility, it just looks like a mistake, I can completely see why it was removed.

Even though there are about 500 new and better things in Windows 7 over XP and even Vista, there are the occasional "Steps back" :/

Though in some cases like the missing up arrow, I think the replacement is far far better so I don't miss it one bit :)
