how do you get the contents from the seach box to "persist"

I use the search box from the start button alot. The searching works great, but when I click on one of results the box is gone. So if I want to go back and look at one of the other results, I have to go back and type in the search box again to see the same results...how do I get the contents to "persist" so I don't have to repeat this to view another result? thanks
