We just tried that. Did not solve it. And the command is sfc /scannow - you got your slash in the wrong place.
Oops! Yeah, of course it should've been sfc /scannow ... but I thought doing it from the recovery environment instead of within Windows might be more successful. It was just a thought.

With the USB cable. Or is yours always connected?

Okay, then go into backup and restore as I told you before, and select Recover system settings or your computer.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit

Click on the advanced recovery methods link.
Click Use a system image you created earlier to recover your computer
When prompted, back up now
After user files have backed up, you will be asked to restart your computer
Click Restart
When asked whether you want the latest system image
Click Select a system image
Select an image from a date before your computer started acting up
click next
If you can format and repartition disks, do so and click next, otherwise just click next
Select all disks if you can repartition, and click OK.
Click Finish.
Click Yes.
Restart your computer when prompted after the restore completes.

If you have questions, see System Image Recovery and go to Step Two

Edit: I am off to bed. All the information you need to recover your computer to working condition is here assuming you have an image backup. If you do not have a backup image, and you do not want to spend money taking it to the store, there is still one more thing to try.
