Freezing While Resuming from Hibernation

Catalyst repair likely reinstalled the Display driver which can also be done from Device Manager. Or it had other Catalyst issues needing repair..

I still would not run Catalyst as it is problematic bloatware unless you need its special settings for overclocking, etc.

I kind of like having the Catalyst Control Center since it allows me to switch between graphics cards with its Switchable Graphics section (I have an integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 and a discrete AMD Radeon HD 6470M). That was kind of why I was hesitant to uninstall anything in the first place.

Sigh...as I feared, the problem came back. I think I'll just live with it though. Fixing it seems to be more of a hassle than just living with it. At least my laptop resumes correctly on the second try after I do a hard restart with the power button.

Have you tried all of the recent (including latest) Display drivers?

To test this you can set Sleep at 1 min and Hibernate at 2 min in Power Options.

Before I give up I would run the trace as you learn a lot about your computer and our own Cluberti is the world's top expert on it.

Dell doesn't have an updated driver and the driver from AMD's website refuses to install due to incompatibility issues even though I used the Driver Autodetect option. Windows Update doesn't have any new drivers to install either.

As for the trace, I do intend to try it if Cluberti gets back to me (I sent him a PM yesterday). However, he/she hasn't gotten back to me yet.

If AMD autodetect doesn't find the right driver, manually search the site for it.

I also always google the display device make/model to read of problems others have had and how they solved them and learn about the various drivers which work and don't.

I also tried manually searching for the driver (I did that before using the autodetect option), but the file that I downloaded had the same incompatibility issues. Either I'm entering the wrong graphics card, which I doubt, or my Dell laptop's other hardware is tricking the driver into thinking that there's an incompatibility issue. Googling also yielded nothing of value.

A couple of things - one, you can try to get a trace, but if hardware incompatibilities cause the hang (unfortunately for you, seeing the EEU errors are problematic and can indicate card/board/bios incompat issues) the trace will not "solve" anything and will hang just like the rest of the machine. However, it is still worth attempting a trace, to see if it finds anything. See your PM for instructions.

Second, I would (if you can) remove the ATI driver and CCC completely, and try another card (preferably non-ATI) to see if the problem continues without the card. If so, try putting in the new card and using the driver that WU will push down after a reboot to test that as well.

Thanks for the instructions. I'll try them out tomorrow since it's already really late in my time zone. Also, since I'm using a laptop, it'll be impossible for me to replace the graphics card without breaking something since I assume that the graphics card and the motherboard are soldered together.

I'm also hesitant about removing CCC because it allows me to switch between the hybrid graphics cards I have. Uninstalling CCC will likely cause a drain on my laptop's battery life because without having a method to switch between graphics cards, both will just remain turned on, draining my battery life. This is already happening in my Linux Mint 12 partition. Because I don't have a way to switch graphics cards, both just stay on, but I can only use the Intel integrated card because Linux Mint only has the drivers for the Intel integrated card. As a result, energy is wasted on the AMD discrete card and my battery life, which should be five hours, is only 1.5 hours when I'm running Linux Mint from my battery.

I checked the BIOS and there are no options to enable or disable either graphics card (is this normal or am I completely wrong and just looking in the wrong place?). Also, disabling either one of the display drivers in the Device Manager completely screws up the display (Windows Aero doesn't work, my screen resolution goes to 800x600 and won't go above 1024x768, the brightness goes to the maximum value and I can't change it, etc.).

I finished the trace though and I'll send cluberti a PM with a download link for it.
