Artifact band on desktop upon waking from sleep

After I wake my computer from sleep (logon screen is fine), when the desktop loads there is a band of artifacts that covers the upper half of the bottom third of my screen in a horizontal band.

The artifacts go away by opening a window (window's explorer, chrome, word, whatever) and dragging it back and forth across the affected area like an eraser.

The band is always in the same place, and is there only when waking my computer from sleep (fresh startup looks normal). This happens 95% of the time.

This is probably a driver issue. Try updating the drivers for your videocard to the latest version.

That's about as much advice as I or anyone here can give you without knowing anything about your system, hardware specs, installed drivers, etc. etc. - these things are always a good idea to share.
