etilqs is backwards for sqlite, which is a database file used by many programs, including firefox

Edit: I found this link which should help, looks like it is firefox Why does Firefox keeps manufacturing etilqs files on my hard drive which tend to be 1-3gb in size? | Firefox Support Forum | Firefox Help

As for whether it is safe to dispose of them, my suggestion would be to cut the files out of the folder and paste them somewhere else for a few days, and see if any of your programs have lost any data / fail to work

If you're happy that all is well, then you can delete the backups you made safely.. From the thread it may be an antivirus issue which prevents firefox from deleting the files, so it may be necessary to add an exclude folder to the av.

Well I don't have FireFox installed on my PC but I will do as you suggested
and move the files to other location and see if all is OK.

You could also rename the files along the lines of filename.old where filename is the name of the file you don't want to use any more.

Vista and now 7 in 32 and 64 bit.

I delete all those files on a weekly basis. It may require you to logon to your regular sites again, as I believe that is where it stores the username logons and passwords in many instances.

How etilqs files are deleted

etilqs is backwards for sqlite, which is a database file used by many programs, including firefox. I think you will find that the etilqs files created by firefox will go away themselves when you exit firefox and thunderbird. Try it and see. It works for me.

I used WizTree to take a look at the files that are taking up the most space on the hard drive, and in the C:\Windows\Temp folder there are 135 files with the name "cab_" followed by a number. These files don't have an extension though. But they all have the same file size (117.1 MB) As you can see...
