    Right click context menu options

Hello. Im just getting used to W7 after upgrading from XP. Im really starting to like this OS but have a question regarding the right click context menu.
If Im in the empty desktop when I right click\new, the options are pretty much the same as in XP, however, if Im in a folder, any folder to begin with, the only "new" option is folder??? Whats up with that. Now, if I do create a new folder, and right click in that then all the usual options are there???
I hav done some googling and Im not the only user with this problem, but I cant seem to find an adaquate solution. I want to create new text files and MS office files in folders without having to create a new subfolder to have that option, it just seems really pointless
Any help with this is appreciated, thank you
Quick Edit: Should have mentioned, using W7 Ultimate, 32bit.

Have you tried a right click into the folder instead of using the "New Folder" option from the top menu

Hello and thank you both for your replies.
Rustberger, just got this now and havent had a chance to look at the links you posted, am just going to follow up now.
SledgeDG, not sure what you mean by "right click into the folder instead of new folder"?
Thanks again to you both, will be back after checking links
P.S. Am I the only one who thinks this is an incredible oversight on the part of MS.

Hello, .reg files dont work. Just tried one as a sample but no luck...did reboot after double clicking and receiving "success" message.
I have all the options in desktop and downloads, but other folders only give new\folder option. This is incredibly bad form on MS's part. It seems folders I create will give me all options but not others. Is this a permissions issue? Thanks again for support.

I mean just right click in any folder and take your pick (you don't have to create a new folder for that every time)

Hello SledgeDG, thats the problem Im posting....those options arent there, just one option...folder. In other words, right click\new\folder, all the other stuff is missing??? Appreciate that your trying to help, so thanks, but I think your not grasping the problem.

Are there particular folders where you're having this problem? If yes, which ones (please list examples)?

Or does this happen no matter which folder you go into?

Hello Corazon, thanks for asking. Ive just done a system restore and things seem to be ok now, but only to a point. To answer your question tho, the problem seemed to be in any folder I didnt create myself, and also on external drive plus usb key drives. Im still going through stuff to see if its completely sorted. However, only "folder" option in c: also in program files...these arent huge issues, but I do like to create files in there so would like to fix it. Obviously I can create docs text and other types elsewhere and save them to where I like, but its a bit annoying to do this when Im in a good workflow. Thanks again
P.S. When I say "only folders I didnt create myself", external drives were a real issue as its a new install, had my motherboard crash on my XP so rebuilt my system and upgraded to W7, so the folders in ext storage probably werent seen as created by me.
That seems to be ok now, but not sure what the cause was, and would like to fix it for C:, but not as big an issue now. Thanks again for support

This is a really weird problem. Some folders I have all the "new" options, some I dont. Nothing to differentiate why, or at least no obvious reason. Does anybody know how to fix this? Any help appreciated.
