    HUGE problem

    Hey,

i've got a pretty big problem. i wanted to replace shell32.dll file, but it didn't let me, so i changed some premission settings and now i can't get access to my local drive C: . i found some fixes, but i can't download them either because of no access or because UAC. i can't change UAC and i can't even do System Restore.

    Please help me.

    Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

You obviously have access to another computer so you can use that to create a system repair disc.

It won't let you re-install Windows, but you can boot into it, choose the Repair option, and then choose System Restore to a point before you messed your computer up.

i can't, it does not open things with that UAC mark next to them , my UAC is on Lvl 3 and it won't even ask, it doesn't ask nothing or do nothing.

If it was me, I'd boot from the disc I used to install and try to repair it...but if that failed, I'd copy my data off and start over with a clean install, chalking this up to a learning opportunity.

Permissions are tricky things at the best of times.

Could your problem have stemmed from the fact that a desktop short cut used an icon from the file you wished to replace,
and because you never thought to delete the short cut the shell32.dll was in permanent use ?

You don't need access to your C drive to use the system repair disc.

Just boot into the disc and choose the Repair option.
