    Computer won't Hibernate

HI, I have tried the tutorial on the site about how to enable hibernation, also been on the bios settings and ran the widget from Microsoft.com but still wont show up on task bar the option to select Hibernate.
On bios there is an option for only S1 (pos) only and S3 only. Not s4 for hibernation.
If you have any suggestions please help.
Here is a CPU-z link for my system.

Go to power options n click on Change advanced power settings, then expand Sleep n disable Allow hybrid sleep n expand Power buttons n lid, change the power button action to hibernate.

    Hi,

Based on my research, this issue can be caused by hardware conflicted or incompatible third party programs. I suggest we first unplug all unnecessary device, such as printer and external device. However, if the issue persists, please refer to the following steps to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Click the Start Button, type "cmd" (without quotation marks), right click on the "Cmd.exe" in the search result list and select "Run as administrator".

    2. Type "powercfg -devicequery wake_armed" (without quotation marks) in the open window and press Enter Key.

    3. A list of the configured devices to wake the computer will be received, then please type the following command to disable them in order to avoid waking up the computer.

    Powercfg -devicedisablewake "devicename"

Note: "devicename" is a device name listed as a result of running the first command.

For example, if the network card "Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet" is listed, we can type the following command to disable it and press Enter.

Powercfg -devicedisablewake "Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet"

    4. Please repeat the steps for other devices in the list.

    5. Reboot the computer and check this issue again.

    What's the result now?

If the issue still occurs, please type the following command and post the result for further research.

    1. Click the Start Button, type "cmd" (without quotation marks), right click on the "Cmd.exe" in the search result list and select "Run as administrator".

    2. Type "powercfg -lastwake" (without quotation marks) in the open window and press Enter Key.

    Thanks,
    Thanz

I have a machine with both win xp sp3, and win 7 home premium. my issue is this: it will not go to stand by mode...noth in xp, and not in win7. I have followed teh tutorials listed in this site by Brinks, to where i can see what caused the latest wake up in the log viewer, and in the descriotion of the device, it says "unknown". my power setting are not messed, nothing is installed wrong, there are no question marks or exclamations on my device manager, the only allowed to wake from sleep is my keyboard and mouse, something that has ALWAYS been the case and never had this issue before. this issue is sudden and I noticed it like a week ago. the only thing different that has been done/altered to this computer is the fact that i have installed some drivers/programs necessary to install an unofficial update to my Android LG Thrill phone, which requires the installation of a program called Windows enabler, "small http server", and a temporary edit to the host file in my system32/drivers/etc folder. Thats it. Its not the first time i mess with these type of things. And this never happened before. IF someone could shine some light into where else i may need to go to fix this issue??

    Hi kevace1, welcome to 7F! :)

Do you also experience poor battery life?
Your problem seems to stem from a poorly written OS (Froyo), and Carrier IQ (CIQ) with ATT&T's Mark the Spot (MTS).
installed some drivers/programs necessary to install an unofficial update to my Android LG Thrill phone, which requires the installation of a program called Windows enabler, "small http server"
See: xda-developers - View Single Post - [Q] Lg Thrill system eating my battery

CIQ, and MTS require the device to be on in order to "phone home", and as a result any setting that involves a suspended state when these programs were developed was treated as an "afterthought".

Check to see if your phone has Froyo, if it does you may find relief if you upgrade to Gingerbread.

AT&T uses Carrier IQ and its own tool called Mark the Spot

AT&T's use of Carrier IQ extends to its own analytics app, not just embedded on phone | Android Central
