    Windows Explorer/Organise/Folder & Search Options/View.

You should find it in there. (that's "hide extentions for know file types") Might be what you need.

I already checked the hide extensions for known file types, and the unknown file types hides its extension also...

Note: this is not only on one specific file types but all unknown file types hides its extention file types also..

Okay, I managed to find a solution for this. I dont know if this is the Windows 7 Default but it fixes my problem on unknown file types to display its extention..

    I just go to registry editor;

    navigate to:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT > Unknown

add new String with the name AlwaysShowExt
    then restarted explorer...

I would like to know the right registry for the Unknown key in Windows 7 Default Registry entry (and would be great if someone can upload the .reg file of it)
    Thanks.

    Hello Netbox,

Here's the tutorial below for the check/uncheck Hide extensions for known file types option in Folder Options with it's registry settings if you would like to take a look at it.
Here a copy of the Unknown key below exported from my system with the default settings.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

thanks for the default key.. and yes, I already knew how to display extensions or disable that options, and my issues was different from that..

it only hide/unhide the file extensions in explorer, mine was the unknown filetypes also hides the extensions.

anyhow, I am very thankful for your help and response.. I really appreciated it.

    You're most welcome. :)

I was just referencing that tutorial in case you wanted to view and/or check the registry entries for it.
