    Display settings profiles?

I have 7 loaded on my new HP DV4 laptop and am loving it so far. One thing I would like to be able to do would be to set up a profile of sorts so that when I have the laptop monitor on it knows to display at 1200x800 and when its hooked to my 42" lcd to go 1920x1080 and have large icons etc.

I'm a Ubuntu user so I havent been around windows in awhile aside from XP at work which is setup so you cant and dont need to change anything

    Any advice would be appreciated

    Thanks

I think that is set by the laptop itself - check your HP settings (check the documentation with the laptop) to see how to set your permanent resolutions for external monitors and TVs. That should get you going.

    Hi CaptMorgan,

You could create a new user account and set that one up with 1920x1080

The only thing you would have to do is log off the 1200x800 user and login 1920x1080.
Or even switch user, but I have never tried that.

I don't think there is a way for windows to change resolution and icon setting just by plugin in another display.

Hope this helps in some way.

I don't have the original load of Vista on here anymore so i don't have any of the HP specific software and if it was hardware I would imagine that i would have to use the bios settings for that which I can't think of seeing a setting like that or how that would work

you know I thought of that too but thought it could get annoying to have different profiles incase I use a document on one profile then have to log off to go get it etc. I will keep that in mind, thanks

If you redirect folders to the same location in both accounts you would't have to do that.

Or use public folders for this aspect, assuming you are not using a homegroup / shared login / domain environment....
