We cant blame them for sticking to XP, as we all know it legacy hardware needs a legacy software to run.

Manually opening the branches became very tedious very quickly. It took me a week to realize there was an option to synchronize the two. Why isn’t this option on by default? What a terrible design decision.
The reason is that it allows you to walk the folder trees a lot faster, especially in network situations.

And then after clicking YES for the hundredth time for administrator permission to move a file from one folder to another - UAC disabled, good riddance. When will UAC get a “do not always be so totally annoying” option?
This is a symptom of improperly set permissions on your destiation folders. If you copy files around a lot (especially if you had hosed those partitions with previous versions of Windows), you may have to reset the folder permissions to give you access to them.

Don't disable UAC, fix the permissions. The UAC prompts go away when the permissions are correct.
