    Missing Operating System?

Ran Ccleaner last night on windows 7 64 and everything was fine. Then this morning when the computer re-started, it says missing operating system and windows will not start or read any discs. checked to make sure CD was 1st in the boot menu. And I am currently running diagnostics on my hard drive. So far everything is passing.

When you used CCleaner, did you use the registry cleaner portion of the app?

If your drive passes diagnostics, I would try to do a System Restore to a time prior to using CCleaner--which I think you can access from a Windows install disc, if you cannot boot at all.

    Hi there

Have you tried booting to Last Known Good Configuration through the advanced boot options?

To do so - first restart your computer. Hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to start pressing F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you will need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer. Once at the options screen use the arrow keys to highlight Last Known Good Configuration, and then press ENTER.

Then see if windows loads or not.

I assume you did not backup the registry in CCleaner when that option was offered to you?

I'd try to do a System Restore from an installation or repair disk if you can't boot your hard drive.

    Did the drive pass diagnostics?

Yes, I am being told it was backed up I cannot get into anything involving windows to restore anything everything has passed so far, doing SATA disk self check now, Unfortunately I only have the disk dell/alienware gives you for windows I don't think it's the complete install disk.

You are being told-----by who or what?

I would boot from that Dell disk and see what options are available to you from its menu. It may well have a series of repair/restore/reinstall options.

My wife says she did, although I have no clue if she did or not.
I'll try the disk again after the diagnostics are done but I had tried that earlier and it wouldn't read either the windows disk or the resource disk.
