    Left ALT key not reacting

    Hi there,

I just got a brand new HP Elitebook 8650w and installed Windows 7 Professional x64. I've installed all drivers, I've turned Sticky Keys off, I'm using Windows Classic theme, I've tried the on screen keyboard to see if Windows tabbing appears when I press ALT + TAB and it does. But the left ALT key on my keyboard is not reacting. I can use CTRL+ALT GR+DEL to access Task Manager, but not CTRL+ALT+DEL.

    It just won't work.

I've also tried to use an extern USB keyboard, and with that ALT+TAB works fine. Is this a hardware problem or is there anything I can do to fix this?

Seems like a faulty keyboard, take it to the HP service center maybe they can fix it or replace the keyboard.

Does the key seem to be stuck down?
Is the movement the same as the other keys?

I agree with Dave76 that it sounds like the actual key is the problem. If it does feel unusual compared to the other keys it can sometimes be something small stuck under the key, in which case I use "Canned Air" to blow it out, and it works well. But you should defiantly feel a tactile difference when depressing that key compared to others.

It feels exactly like the others. Damn. That's really annoying.

    Merry christmas though :)

Well you shouldn't have too much trouble if it's brand new, is it possibly new enough to exchange at the store you bought it from? sometimes that can be faster and more convenient.

Merry Christmas too you as well!

Well. It's a work station, so I just have to tell the IT Department that I need a new one. They're just closed over Christmas and New Years. So there's no problem at all. I just like to know how to fix a bug when it occurs :)
