Cannot enable any system tray icons besides clock HELP PLEASE!

I wasn't sure where to put this as it has to do with the network, battery (on a laptop) the sound, and the action center.

I noticed today that none of my system tray icons are showing up. I went to customize and then turn off and on system icons, and they are grayed out.

I've looked around and saw a solution with deleting some registry lines and restarting explorer.exe but that didn't do anything. I also used a "fix me" from windows and that also didn't work. There was a solution having to do with the windows 7 ultimate that I couldnt do because my version (premium) doesn't have the gedit.msc (iirc) just a gedit.dll.

I can live with icons on the desktop that I can pin to the taskbar if I could only figure out how to actually get those icons to the desktop.

This is so insanely frustrating, thanks for the help everyone,

    Evan

    Hello Evan,

If you have not already, you might see if using OPTION TWO in the tutorial below may be able to help.

System Icons - Enable or Disable

    Hope this helps,

I already did that forgot to mention it, sorry. It did add some lines in the registry that werent originally there, but the icons were still grayed out. Should a registry fixer (free hopefully) fix this?

No. Please stay away from those so called registry fixers. They usually cause more damage than anything else.

You could also do a system restore using a restore point (if available) dated before this happened to hopefully undo and fix it.

I also checked that lol, but to my dismay I found out that my system restore was turned off (which is weird because i reformatted a few months ago, and dont remember turning it off). Is there any way that you know of that I can make icons to at least the volume controls? I've been using rainmeter for a long time and I know that they have system controls to be able to see the network speeds and all that, but am unaware of them having any sound controls.

thanks again for the help man

You might see if using either shortcut below may help as a workaround for the Volume icon until you are able to get this sorted.

    Volume Shortcut - Create

    Volume Mixer Shortcut - Create

Just to be safe, I would recommend to do a full scan of your system with MalwareBytes free just to help make sure it's clean in case this may have been caused by malware.

    awesome, thanks shawn

I dig some digging last night around 4am and found a rainmeter theme that had everything I lost in it except the action center (which I had hidden to begin with). So I think this is as far as I can go with getting it resolved, everything on my desktop, and volume controls are now next to my windows orb thanks to you!

You can close out the topic or whatever you see fit
