Windows 7 RC (Build 7100)

This was a driver isssue. The problem was an Nvidia Sata driver I loaded at setup from Fernando's Performance Pack for Vista. The DVD is an Sata drive. Second time around I didn't load any drivers and accepted what Windows 7 loaded by default. Everything seems to be working fine. Thanks to all who responded.

Win 7

I had the same problem with an LG-GH20 series DVD Drive. I solved the problem by installing a new drive. I'm guessing that you did the upgrade from your previous system and that if you try to boot Win7 solely from the install disk the install hangs? I tried driver overrides and various other sneaky methods but nothing worked satisfactorily. In the end I called LG and had a chat with one of their tech support girls. Only the LG-GH22 series drives have Win7 in thier range so far. I'm sure many other companies will have similar issues.
There are firmaware/software upgrades for some drives but it seems only those manufactured less than 12 months ago so far.
Good luck with getting your drive to work. I chose the easy way out in the end :)
