Registry clean or defrag?

    Think about it. If "cleaning" or defragging the registry made a significant difference, Microsoft would handle it for you. It wasn't necessary before Windows 7 either. Most apps that have "cleaner" in the name are snake oil.

    The don't help in perpetuating it. CCleaner has had many valuable and legitimate uses for many of us....and to close your mind or ignore them is spreading bad advice and information.

    To your other point, there are plenty of things Microsoft could do themselves, but don't. Anytime they try to add more functionality to their OS out of the box, some other group *cough*European Union*cough* sures them to remove it. Don't blindly assume that because Microsoft doesn't include something on the disc that it isn't necessary.
