Problems about windows 7 "open command window here" shift-right click

When I clicked on "open command window here" on shift-right click menu. It shows me an error message as the attachment. Before it works fine until last month. Does Windows last update update caused that problem or I did something wrong?

    Hello Datactrl,

That error message usually indicates that the associations for it may be incorrect. See if downloading and merging the cmd option in the tutorial below may be able to help fix this afterwards. It will restore the default associations for this.

Default File Type Associations - Restore

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    command window here

Press Window key+R will come up RUN window and type CMD and 'enter' it will create command window.

Download Windows default association files and merge successfully. But the problem is the same.

I have one desktop PC and one laptop PC have the same problems. I wonder it's caused by the MS Windows latest update.

Do you have any issues with running any other .exe files?

If so, download and merge the exe option in the same tutorial above to restore it's default associations.

If not, then you could also do a system restore using a restore point (if available) dated before this issue to hopefully undo the cause and fix it. :)

    open command window here

Merge EXE association won't work. I can't restore system because after that point I have something important installed.

Sounds like that "open command window here" has been corrupted some how. Check the path in the registry. Windows key + R, type cmd.

Navigate to this path> DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\runas. On the right you should see
Default REG_SZ Open Command Prompt Here
    HasLUAShield REG_SZ

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\runas\command.
    Default REG_SZ cmd.exe /s /k pushd \"%V\"

    What do you have?

If you like downloading and merging the Directory option from the same tutorial below will restore those registry entries back to default like in Hipster's (Ken's) post above. :)

That's a much easier way Shawn. Wasn't sure if it would rewrite the values or create another 'open' option.

Thank you so much, Hipster and Brink. After merge directory option, it works now!
