I had a similar problem where i had somehow manage to delete those librariers, what i did was made a new account and copy and paste those exact files. After that my righ side panel was working again and i deleted that secondary account

Not sure what happened to your Libraries, but you might see if running a sfc /scannow command may be able to fix them.

If not, then you can create a new adminsitrator account, copy the contents of your old account's user folders into the corresponding new account's user folders. If everything checks out ok, then you can delete the old account from within the new one.

If all else fails, or you do not want to create another account, then you can do a repair install without losing anything.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Thanks Bright Blessings. Yes I did try that - but when I do so I get the same message.

But the funny thing is that if I right click on any of the folders and click "open", all the files shown up. The "file does not have a program" message only appears when I double click the folder icon to open it. Not sure what is going on.
Hello Peter, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Before resorting to a repair install, see if downloading and merging the Library-ms and folder options in the tutorial below may be able to help. It will restore their default associations.

Default File Type Associations - Restore

    Hope this helps,

Thanks for all the help guys. Must say that Windows 7 is disappointing. It tells you to install SP1 and when you do, you get this problem. Not being able to solve the problem, I undid the restore to get back to where I was before SP1 - and that fixed the "file does not have a message" problem. Only trouble is, I then lost all internet connection on my desk top computer. My modem was just fine and still sending out a wireless signal (which my lap top picked up) but my main desk top computer no longer recognised the modem (connected by ethernet). After hours of trying to fix the problem, I then when back to the previous restore. That fixed the internet problem - but now I have the same "file does not have a message" problem. I figure that's the least of two evils. Think I'll go back to using my Mac - NEVER had any such problems with the Mac!

Did you give my suggestion above a try to see if it may help?

So, did a Restore or Brinks's suggestion work?

    Hi Britton30

I did a restore to get back to where I was before SP1 - and that fixed the "file does not have a message" problem. Only trouble is, I then lost all internet connection on my desk top computer. My modem was just fine and still sending out a wireless signal (which my lap top picked up) but my main desk top computer no longer recognised the modem (connected by ethernet). After hours of trying to fix the problem, I then undid that restore and went back to the previous SP1 restore. That fixed the internet problem - but now I have the same "file does not have a message" problem again. But I figure that's the least of two evils and will just live with that. Nothing else seems to fix that problem (including Brink's suggestion).

    Cheers

    Hi Brink.

Yes I did try your suggestion. But that didn't work unfortunately. As mentioned in an earlier post, I did a restore to get back to where I was before SP1 - and that did fix the "file does not have a message" problem. Only trouble is, I then lost all internet connection on my desk top computer. My modem was just fine and still sending out a wireless signal (which my lap top picked up) but my main desk top computer no longer recognised the modem (connected by ethernet). Ilyk,

As a test, create a new administrator account, and see how this works while logged on to the new account to see if it's just your user account that is affected by this or all user accounts.
