Permission denied to access/copy files from my old computer

I built a new desktop and did a clean Windows 7 64-bit install. I hooked up the hard drive from my old PC, which had XP on it, so I could copy all the files over to my new hard drive. But when I try, I keep getting errors that I don't have permission to access the file or copy the file. I was trying to do it for specific folders, but then I still needed to go through the process to ask for permission for each individual file inside the folder! So I changed the security settings for the entire drive by right clicking E:/, going to security and changing the permission for "Everyone" and checked the box "full control," which then checks all the boxes. And yet, when I try to copy folders from my old My Documents, it's still giving me error messages. I don't want any security settings at all. No one else is ever going to use this computer. But at the very least I need to copy these files. Please tell me how to do this, thanks in advance.

These directions don't make any sense to me. When I download and open the zip, I see two registration entries, Add_Take_Ownership and Remove_Take_Ownership. When I right click either of them, no where does it say "merge." I added Take Ownership to the registry, but it hasn't done anything. Please help.

Just checked the download. All is good. Did you extract the files from zip? Creates a new folder with the files in it. If you want to add the take ownership right click the first file then merge.

You must unzip the files first.

I got it to work. The directions were just very unclear, but I figured it out. I didn't have to merge anything, I just installed it and the new option appeared.

However, it's not working on a couple files. It worked mostly very well. But on an old hard drive of mine, I am trying to delete the old Windows XP system files. I got 99% of it done, but it refuses to delete the folder for Macromedia Flash. Even when I take ownership of the folder, the subfolders and the files individually it still says, "You require permission from Katie-Desktop/Katie to make changes to this folder" when I try to delete any of them. The thing is, I am logged in as Katie on Katie-Desktop! It is claiming I need permission from myself. I have gone in the security tab and given myself full control, "everyone" full control and nothing works. This is so freaking annoying. What do I do?
